Smoky Grilled Mackerel with Charred Lemon
Oily, robust mackerel fillets grilled hard for smoky char and brightened with squeezed charred lemon and a whisper of chili. Bold and unapologetic.
Ingredients
Serves 4- 4 fillet mackerel fillets
- 2 tbsp olive oil
- 2 lemons, halved
- 0.5 tsp red chili flakes
- 1 clove garlic clove, minced
- 1 tbsp fresh oregano
- 0.5 tsp flaky sea salt
Instructions

Heat a grill to high and oil the grates thoroughly.

Rub the mackerel with olive oil, garlic, chili flakes and oregano.

Place the fillets skin-side down and grill 3 to 4 minutes until the skin chars.

Flip and cook 1 to 2 minutes more until just cooked through.

Char the lemon halves cut-side down until caramelized.

Squeeze the charred lemon over the fish and finish with flaky salt.
