Italian Beef Meatballs in Slow-Simmered Sugo
Tender beef meatballs simmered in a rich, slow-cooked tomato sugo until they soak up all the flavor. Rustic Sunday-dinner comfort in a bowl.
Ingredients
Serves 6- 2 lb ground beef (85/15)
- 3/4 cup breadcrumbs
- 1 egg
- 1/2 cup grated parmesan
- 28 oz crushed tomatoes
- 5 clove garlic
- 1 yellow onion
- 1/4 cup fresh basil
- 3 tbsp olive oil
- 1 tsp dried oregano
Instructions

Mix the beef with breadcrumbs, egg, parmesan, half the garlic, salt and pepper, then roll into balls.

Brown the meatballs in olive oil on all sides and set aside.

Soften the diced onion and remaining garlic in the same pot.

Add crushed tomatoes and oregano and simmer 10 minutes to build the sugo.

Nestle the meatballs into the sauce and simmer gently for 45 minutes until tender.

Finish with torn basil and extra parmesan before serving.
